We are always working to improve the property for public and private events. Your generous donation will help us reach our goals of improved venue quality, preservation of native species and eradicating invasive species.
Forest Management
What? Invasive plant species are prevalent on the property. These invasive species, Autumn Olive and particularly Oriental Bittersweet, are incredibly fast spreading that eventually kill native species by restricting access to light.
How? There are several steps and costly measures needed to eradicate the invasive species. In the spring, we have to cut back the new growth and dab what is left in the ground with herbicide. During the growing season, we have to take caution when pulling up new growth and taking all including the root.
Why? The invasive species outcompete native vegetation. Our state tree, the Eastern White Pine, is greatly affected by the Oriental Bittersweet on our property and we don't want to lose the trees to invasive species.
