Jamie & Anna

We are born and raised Ludington natives and we are excited to share our business endeavor with our community! Our biggest dream is to bring together families and friends at The Barn at Shagway. We hope to educate guests about the historical context of the land, barn and Henry Shagway, native animals and plant species of the area as well as the importance of preserving this unique gem in Hamlin Township. We anticipate hosting a variety of community events throughout the year to include music and art, as well as provide a venue to rent for private events. Thank you for your interest and support of The Barn at Shagway!

The Barn

Henry Shagway, member of the Ottawa Tribe, the most prominent Native American Tribe in Mason County, was the original homesteader of the property located on Shagway Road in Ludington, Michigan. Shagway resided on the 40 acre tract in Hamlin Township from 1898-1953. He was a dairy and agricultural farmer and provided goods to resorters of early Hamlin Township. Shagway and Pete Espiew, 'Uncle Pete', also member of the Ottawa Tribe and namesake of Indian Pete Bayou located just west down the road, built the original barn in 1898. It was later rebuilt by the pair in 1930 due to a fire.
Henry Shagway is the namesake of the venue as well as the road in which we are located.
